Beaulieu River at Longwater Lawn, New Forest
The pony in the foreground is standing in the Beaulieu River, grazing the northern bank. The infant river once took a more meandering course across this fairly flat valley bottom on the heathland to the east of Lyndhurst, but it looks as if its course has been artificially straightened. The pony on the right is standing still on a 'spoil heap', exposing itself to the cool breeze. Longwater Lawn is a popular grazing spot for the ponies as it is grassy, breezy and subject to little disturbance by people.
