Watson Fothergill - Express Chambers, Parliament Street
Dated 1876, the chambers were lettable offices attached to the Express Offices SK5740 : Watson Fothergill - Express Offices, Parliament Street. This was the local newspaper which later became the Evening Post.
This building predates Fothergill's passion for red brick, although this is evident on the top floor, which has dormer gables which are totally characteristic, as is the projecting first floor bay. The wealth of sculptures stonework in the form of friezes and corbels is also distinctive.
