St Nefydd & St Mary, Llannefydd
St Nefydd & St Mary, Llannefydd
A double-naved perpendicular church in the hamlet of Llannefydd. It is said that Catrin o Ferain (Katheryn of Berain) is buried here, though the grave is unmarked. Catrin (1534-1591), was the daughter of Tudor ap Robert Vychan and Jane Vielville, and she was a handsome, wealthy and intelligent woman who married four different powerful husbands during the 16th century. She was also called "Mam Cymru" (Mother of Wales) As her six children had been borne by high profile husbands, and because she had six children, around sixteen step children, about thirty-two grandchildren, and scores of descendants.
