Farewell Florence Nightingale
Farewell Florence Nightingale
The Florence Nightingale was a pub opposite St James's hospital, which had been closed for some time. In the afternoon of April 22nd 2008 it was destroyed by a large explosion, believed to have been caused by leaking gas. Fortunately there were just a few people with minor injuries, quickly taken across the road for treatment at A&E (just behind me when I took this photo).
The following day the remaining walls and roof were demolished as they were unsafe. 9 days later, work continues to clear the site, with an excavator delving in the cellar.
