A Ryde Pier Head - Shanklin train pauses at Sandown, having just crossed a train in the opposite direction. Only one train can be allowed on the section south of here as there are no further crossing loops. In its heyday, Sandown was one of the busiest stations on the extensive Isle of Wight network.
