Brownsea Island is the largest of five islands in Poole harbour. The lake is one of two in the 96.8 hectare nature reserve which occupies the northern half of the island. It is leased from the National Trust who own the island and manage the southern half. The reserve is managed by the Dorset Wildlife Trust:
