Limehouse: The Mission
Limehouse: The Mission
According to the foundation stone this Art Deco seamen's hostel was built in 1923 to the designs of T Brammall Daniel FRIBA and Horace W Parnacott ARIBA. G E Wallis & Sons Limited were the builders. A second foundation stone exists along the right side of the building in Salmon Lane (to the right in the photograph) telling us that the Empire Memorial Hostel was extended in 1932 under the instructions of the British Sailors' Society. The building has now been converted into apartments, and a large anchor rests in the boulder arrangement at the front. The A13 Commercial Road is to the left.
