Philip Larkin Close, Hull
Philip Larkin Close, Hull
Off Inglemire Lane, close to its junction with Beverley High Road. It is named after the poet who lived in Hull from 1955 until his death 30 years later. In 2008, The Times judged Larkin the greatest British writer since 1945. He first moved to Hull from Belfast (see J3372 : Larkin plaque, Belfast), and initially lived at TA0830 : 31 and 32 Pearson Park, Hull. In 1974 he moved to TA0731 : 105 Newland Park, Hull. Larkin worked as university librarian at TA0731 : Brynmor Jones Library, University of Hull. Apart from a university building named after him this is, as far as I'm aware, the only memorial to him in his adopted city.
