The ridge in the background, on the south side of the Malltraeth Marsh, was also heavily defended. This was the line of defence should the Nazis have landed in the Holyhead area. Until fairly recently there was a large pill box on the A5 at Pentre Berw (Holland Arms)SH4772. The Pen Boncan pill box is on private land.
