NZ2973 : The site of Backworth 'C' pit

near to Seghill, Northumberland, Great Britain

The site of Backworth 'C' pit.
The site of Backworth 'C' pit.
The trees mark the site of one of the many pits of the Backworth Colliery. This one closed in the 1890's but Backworth and the surrounding villages had dozens of other pits, now all vanished. The cows now graze on the old spoil heap!
