Only nine miles to Grantham!
These mile markers are a common sight along the Grantham Canal and are planted at quarter mile intervals. As the canal was built to supply Grantham with coal and other necessary goods, with little planned trade in the opposite direction, the distances are measured from the lock out of the River Trent. This one is on the approach to the Bottesford Road Bridge. The next one for 24¼ miles is missing.

To follow this walk of about 6 miles along the canal and public footpaths, park in the village of Redmile somewhere near the Peacock Inn and walk north west out of the village to the bridge where you can gain access to the tow path.
