In St Thomas' Church of Ireland, Rathlin Island:
"Diese Gedenktafel widmen dem hier am 24 Septbr. 1868 gestorbenen Carl Piehl seine Geschwister aus Berlin u. Neu Strelitz zum ewiges Andenken!" (His brothers and sisters from Berlin and Neustrelitz dedicate this memorial tablet to Carl Piehl, who died here on 24 September 1968, in everlasting memory!)
What brought Herr Piehl to Rathlin, or what caused his death so far from his Prussian home, I have been unable to discover. Perhaps a shipwreck in these treacherous waters?
