The River Tees is released from captivity
The river starts its flow once again after being held back by the dam. It was rather spectacular to see and hear the explosive release through a pipe due to the fullness of the reservoir.
NY8128 : Cow Green Dam and River Tees The dam was completed in1970, and the first overflow from the reservoir took place in 1972. Since then the flow in the Tees has been largely controlled by the reservoir. The unique flora is in part a relict of the pine woods that once grew on the 'sugar limestone' here.
