Historic Border Farmlands
It's thought the Scottish Army camped here during the signing of the Treaty of Birgham in 1289. The Treaty was designed to secure Scotland's sovereignty over its border with England which was being debated after the death of Alexander III. The Queen, Margaret, died during her voyage from Norway and the competition for the throne became more violent between the Houses of Baliol And Bruce. Edward of England later declared himself Overlord of Scotland sparking the Scottish Wars of Independence.
