NH2301 : A Corn Kiln

3 km from Munerigie, Highland, Great Britain

A Corn Kiln
A Corn Kiln
This structure is a stone-lined circular pit that I was told was most likely used for drying grain. I was told that warm air from a fire built outside of the kiln was drawn into the pit along a small stone lined tunnel. Then the heat rose up through a platform of timbers where the grain had been piled. They think that sometimes the kiln could have been built inside a small barn.
