WW2 pillbox near Marsh Gate
WW2 pillbox near Marsh Gate
View looks northwards from close to the main railway line towards the A4. This sadly decaying pillbox is a type FW3/22 originally part of GHQ stop-line Blue and commanding a stretch of the railway and the nearby Kennet & Avon Canal. The pillbox is being damaged by the storage of hard core in the vicinity and a new mobile phone mast has been built just out of picture in the field on the left. It is a big pity that the architectural and historical significance of such buildings is rarely appreciated.
