Having just crossed the wineglass, Lady Spencer’s walk continues through the gate on the near right of the photograph.

The wineglass is the name given to a planting of two double rows of lime trees to the east of Hardwick Hall. The bowl of the glass starts in front of the hall where the limes sweep round in two arcs before turning sharply to form the stem, which is a long double avenue leading away from the hall. Hence the name.

This photograph, which is looking westerly, was taken just to the north of the two double rows of Lime trees that form the stem.
