TF1181 : All Saints' chancel

taken 16 years ago, near to Holton Cum Beckering, Lincolnshire, England

All Saints' chancel
All Saints' chancel
The chancel was restored / rebuilt by W.A.Nicholson in 1851 and features a remarkable marble and mosaic reredos installed when Sir.G.G.Scott further restored the church in 1859-60. It has a distinctly southern European style and was apparently made by a Catholic Italian who (according to Pevsner) insisted on smoking his pipe whilst making it.
