Markenfield Hall
A view across the courtyard towards the block containing the great hall, chapel etc. A blocked first floor archway to the left of the lancet windows indicates the original entrance via an external staircase to the great hall, whilst the pepperpot roof to the right is above the medieval chapel. The house was begun around 1280 and Sir John Markenfield was given licence to crenellate in 1310 by King Edward 2nd.
