Pen Cwm Twymyn
Grassy strip at the head of the V-shaped valley of the Afon Twymyn from the layby on the mountain road from Machynlleth to Llanidloes. The river comes from the west (left) and drops into this glacial valley over several rapids and one big cascade, changing its direction towards the north. The nearby information board SN8793 : Viewpoint over Dylife Gorge explains how glacial activity provided a new channel for the existing river and how fast flowing water changes the profile of the valley from U to V shape over time. Similar views in late summer SN8794 : Afon Twymyn and in winter SN8794 : Craig y Maes.
