Up-line old Deeside Railway
Looking towards Denhead. The line of the railway is alongside the dilapidated fence, towards a summit - in a cutting now blocked by trees. This routing via Torphins/Lumphanan arose when Kincardine O'Neil denied right of way along the preferred River Dee haughs routing. The summit cutting became a notorious bottleneck on the line, frequently becoming blocked by snow in winter. 'Devil's Gulch' became a local sobriquet.
