View towards Bur Bushes, New Forest
This rather soggy rough grassland on a high plateau is typical of the treeless regions of the northern New Forest. Described as 'wasteland' in the past it is exposed and unsuitable for farming. Parts were deliberately planted with trees, for example the Islands Thorns Inclsoure seen on the right, but much is kept open like this by the grazing of commoners' stock. In the distance is a cottage on the B3080, on the Hampshire-Wiltshire border near Bramshaw Telegraph.
