near to Lilstock, Somerset, Great Britain

Eroding bedding planes
The shallow-dipping bedding planes here lie beneath the level of high tide. The rocks here comprise thin beds of mudstones, lias and shales, which erode at different rates. The tumble of boulders in the foreground represent the fate of the lias beds in the background.
