One of the Six Stoups
The Six Stoups are standing posts which have traditionally guided travellers across the boggy moors. Over the years all but two the original posts had either been stolen or damaged beyond repair so, thanks to the Guisborough and Great Ayton Rotary Club, a whipround of local farmers was arranged to source replacements. The three pairs of stones now align the busy A171 at a spot where there is no access to park and few people walk so only likely to be seen by a passing cyclist braved enough to risk this stretch of road.
