Hull City in the Premier League
Hull City.... Premier League? String those two phrases together and it sounds a bit like comedian Peter Kay's "Garlic Bread" routine. Nevertheless the 104 year old football club has finally achieved what to many seemed impossible. Until two days ago, Hull had the unenviable distinction of being the largest conurbation in England never to have had a football team compete in the top division. Thanks to a spectacular goal by 39 year old Hull-born striker Dean Windass in the playoff final at Wembley, that dubious honour now passes to Plymouth. The picture is of emotional fans in Victoria Square as the players appear on the City Hall balcony.
