Looking towards Loch Sgamhain
Looking towards Loch Sgamhain
The foreground bog is in square, though from this point the rivers which cross the bog are not obvious. Lying close to the watershed at the head of Glen Carron, Loch Sgamhain (pronounce it 'SCA-van' - it means 'loch of the lung') is surrounded by treeless moorland. The trees on the islands have survived because they are out of reach of grazing animals. The rectangular plantation on the present map isn't marked on the 1988 1:50,000 map.
