Iron ore empties at Pyle
Iron ore empties return from the steel works at Llanwern to Port Talbot for loading. Iron ore was one of the main ingredients for steel making. This was imported from the docks at Port Talbot to feed the blast furnaces at Llanwern steel works nr Newport. The iron ore was moved by rail in regular trains every couple of hours or so along the South Wales main line. This is the empty return wagons at Pyle. Note the red dust on the locomotives from the ore.
