Having climbed the fifty eight locks from the River Severn at Worcester there is a clear run into Gas Street Basin in the centre of Birmingham on the Birmingham and Worcester Canal.

The Monarch's Way footpath crosses the canal at the tunnel portal and follows the canal towpath for a few hundred yards on its way towards Tardebigge Church.
