NT1350 : Carrs, Slipperfield

near to West Linton, Scottish Borders, Great Britain

Carrs, Slipperfield.
Carrs, Slipperfield.
Hollows in the sand deposits beneath the Pentland Hills are sometimes flooded. Slipperfield Loch is one of the biggest of the pools, but is shrinking as the margins become vegetated. The marshes are eventually colonised by alder and later as it gets dryer birch and scots pine. A small wet alder carr by Slipperfield Loch, with Mendick Hill in the background.
