Drumcliffe High Cross
Drumcliffe High Cross
A monastery was founded here in the 6th Century by St Colmcille, the only remains of the monastery today are two High Crosses and part of a round tower, the crosses are in a graveyard by the side of the road leading to the Church of Ireland church where the poet W. B. Yeats lies buried. One of the Crosses is a plain shaft with the head missing, the other is the highly decorated cross pictured on the right. This High Cross stands at 3.83 metres.
