The original Godalming station, which opened in 1849, was a terminus on the north side of the River Wey at
SU974444. When the Portsmouth Direct line and the new station (
SU9643 : Godalming station) opened in 1859, the old station was left as a spur. It is believed to have remained open for some time (not known by me - perhaps until Farncombe station opened in in 1897 or until the main line was electrified in 1937), and continued to be used as a goods yard until the 1960's. The site has now been re-developed - hence Old Station Way.
SU9744 : Wey InnThe adjacent Wey Inn was formerly called the Railway Hotel.
