Carsington Pastures
Looking south from Manystones Lane at Hopton. Carsington Pastures is an ancient industrial landscape having been mined for lead since roman times. The humps are the remains of former mine shafts mostly in lines along the lead 'rake' or vein. The ponds (mostly collapsed shafts) are the habitat of great crested newts amongst other wildlife. Carsington Water is in the background.
