Kylerhea Ferry
Kylerhea Ferry
The Kylerhea ferry still takes cars 'over the sea to Skye' although the other short ferry crossing has now been replaced by a bridge. This vessel is the 'Glen Mallie', built for Ballachulish by James Noble Ltd of Fraserburgh, which plied at Kylerhea from 1969 to 1982, relieving each October on the Scalpay crossing, and latterly as a cattle barge from Barra to Vatersay, where her hulk still lies. Thanks to John Allan and the West Highland Free Press for information about the vessel.
