Upper Dove Valley
This photograph of the Upper Dove Valley was taken from the gated minor road between Pilsbury and Pilsbury Grange Farm.
The line of trees meandering along the valley bottom shows the course of the River Dove which, at this point, forms the boundary between Derbyshire (foreground) and Staffordshire (the rising hillside ahead).
On the right is Broadmeadow Hall and associated farm buildings and on the crest of the hillside ahead is the route of the minor road between Longnor and Sheen.
The track in the centre foreground and the line of trees near the left-hand edge of the picture show the route of a SK1163 : Bridleway in the Upper Dove Valley.
About a third of the way up the field on the left-hand side of the photograph there is a ‘scar’ leading off from the bridleway. This is part of another bridleway to Sheen and was once part of a pack-horse route between Sheen and Pilsbury Bridge.
Pilsbury Bridge crossed the River Dove in the bottom left-hand corner of the picture in the approximate location of the present-day SK1163 : Ford.
