Birthplace of Ted Hughes
Former poet laureate Ted Hughes was born at 1 Aspinall Street, Mytholmroyd on 17 August 1930. Ted lived in the house until he was eight. At least eight of his poems make reference to the house. The property was purchased by the Elmet Trust in 2005 and has been renovated and decorated in a 1930s style. The house is to become a holiday-let but will also be open to the public on certain days in the year. This photo was taken following the official opening by the Lord Mayor of Calderdale and the unveiling of the blue plaque by poet Simon Armitage.
