Ballone Castle
Ballone Castle
Ballone Castle is a late 16th century z-plan tower house. It is said to have been built by the Earls of Ross, but was sold by the Dunbars of Tarbat to the Earl of Cromarty in 1623, after which it fell into disrepair. It was ruinous when this photograph was taken, but not long afterwards it was beautifully restored, as can be seen from other images in this grid square.
