Halloughton Grange - A Ghost Story
Halloughton Grange - A Ghost Story
This rather intriguing building stands on a twisting lane near Whitacre Heath - and if not haunted itself then the lane does have that distinction apparently.
This little story was told to me by my mother who lived in Kingsbury at the time that it occurred: One evening in the mid 1930s, a young man was cycling back from Hams Hall to Kingsbury. As he passed Halloughton Grange a woman in nurse's uniform stepped out in front of him. With virtually no time to react, he swerved to attempt to miss her - but in vain - however instead of colliding with the woman, he and his bicycle drove straight through her. He was in a terribly shocked state when he finally arrived in Kingsbury and it took a long time to get the story out of him. He was then informed that some years before a nurse had been killed in an accident on that very corner ...
Since that time there have been several other accidents on that stretch of road and I can testify that the place certainly has a peculiar atmosphere.
