Watford Locks, Northamptonshire
A narrowboat lines up to enter the bottom chamber (Lock No 3 of the whole flight of seven) of the Watford staircase, which consists of four locks which share three pairs of gates. The foreground paddle (Lock No 2) is up because a boat (out of sight to the left, but the water turbulence caused by its screw can be observed to the left of the ratchet) is entering Lock No 2.
