These narrowboats have moored while they wait to enter the Watford flight of seven locks. Boaters need to contact the lock-keeper when they arrive, as careful management of boat movement up and down the locks is required; little room for waiting is available in the pounds either end of the staircase (Locks 3 to 6). The locks raise this Leicester Section of the Grand Union Canal by 52ft 6in (16 metres).
