The grave is that of a Covenanter wounded at the Battle of Rullion Green. A local shepherd, Adam Sanderson, discovered the dying soldier and discovered that his last wish was to see the Ayrshire Hills one last time. The Covenanter didn't live long enough so Sanderson buried his body high on Black Law at a point where the Ayrshire Hills are just visible (on a good day).
The post in the distance marks the right of way between Garvald and Crosswood.
