TQ1929 : Pond adjacent to A281 (Brighton Road) at Birchen Bridge, West Sussex
3 km from Horsham, West Sussex, Great Britain

Pond adjacent to A281 (Brighton Road) at Birchen Bridge, West Sussex.
A long thin man-made ribbon pond extending to 700m E of the dam (Birchen Bridge). In the foreground of the view is a weir used to control the maximum level of the water. This pond is characteristic of the many "Hammer Ponds" that are found in the W end of the High Weald. Other examples are at TQ2229 and TQ2129. View taken from close to the public road, at the S end of the dam, looking NE. A thin layer of ice on top of the water does not prevent good reflections of the trees on the other side of the pond.
