These horses remained immobile for several minutes; I never saw the tiny pony move. It clearly saw its only hope of communication was with passing traffic along the lane to Swallerton Gate, since its field-mate had become obsessed with a curiously-shaped piece of wood.
They share a long narrow paddock beside the lane and lined with trees.
