Compton Dando: possible site of dam for wire mill pond
Candlewick Brook, in Lord’s Wood, marks the parish boundary. On the right is Publow parish
and what looks like the remains of old walling. This may be the remains of a dam associated with an 18th century wire mill which was advertised in 1818: ‘.. Also to be let for 21 years, the scite of a Mill, formerly used for wire drawing, easily convertible to a corn mill, paper mill, &c, in the parish of Publow ..’ [Felix Farley’s Bristol Journal 5 September 1818]
