Nant Gwrtheyrn in 1971
A vintage photograph, taken on a student film making trip to the area in the spring of 1971. This shows Trem y Mor (Sea View), one of the two terraces of houses built in 1878 for the quarry men and their families. A century later, after a massive fundraising campaign throughout Wales, the derelict quarry village was bought by Ymddiriedolaeth Nant Gwrtheyrnin for 25,000. Extensively restored over the next few years to become part of The Welsh Language School, it eventually opened for courses in 1982. See LinkExternal link for the history of the village and its site.
