Alexandra Graving Dock, Belfast
The Alexandra Graving Dock in Belfast was constructed 1885-1888 by contractors McCrea and McFarland (see J3576 : Bollard, Alexandra Dock Belfast). The dock is named after the then Princess of Wales who turned the first sod of the excavation for the building works in 1885. This is a view out over the entrance to the dock which is permanently open as HMS 'Caroline' currently sits in the dock (see J3575 : HMS Caroline, Alexandra Dock Belfast [2]). Across the Victoria Channel is the huge wood chips carrier 'Mimosa Dream' unloading at the Stormont Wharf.
