The inscription reads: This granite boulder was found in this churchyard while a grave was being dug in about 1878. George Eastham - Sexton. John Gibson - Grave-digger. It is placed here to mark the first burial in 1834. Erected 1910. Revd. CH James - Vicar. HJ Ainsworth, H Heyes - Church-wardens.
