Enterprise lands at Stansted in 1983
In the year that BBC launched breakfast television and the Police topped the charts with “Every Breath You Take,” - NASA’s Space Shuttle Enterprise made an historic visit to Stansted Airport.
On June 5, 1983, and in front of nearly half a million people, the Shuttle touched down on the back of a specially modified Boeing 747. Its visit to Stansted was part of NASA's one-off European tour that included stopovers in Germany, Italy and France.
I was there that day and have scanned this picture off an old photograph I found while having a clearout.
