Armadale House - rebirth 2008
Armadale House on Bank Street, Portree was built in the 1880s. Until the end of 2007, it was the site of the hardware shop of D Stewart & Co. Stewarts had been trading in Portree since 1840, and had occupied this site for well over 100 years before closing their doors for the last time. Now the property is being redeveloped for a number of retail and leisure uses. The two shop units on the ground floor have opened recently. On the left is 'Kilts & Krafts' (it could have been 'Cilts and Crafts', I suppose), and on the right is Carmina Gadelica, selling books, music and artists' materials.
