On the western side of the bridge work is well-advanced to provide a new marina. There are about 30,000 craft on British canals - more than in the time when they were used commercially. It is hoped that the creation of the new canal link across Liverpool's Pier Head will bring more boats to this part of the canal, and attract more people to keep their boats in the area.
