Winchcombe, the capital of the kingdom of Mercia is situated in a hollow below the escarpment, surrounded on three sides by the Cotswold Hills. The hill beyond sunlit Winchcombe is Langley Hill, on the far right the large outlier of Bredon Hill can be seen.
